Common FAQs
You will need to purchase your own domain name. If you are unsure of what type of domain name you should use, and how to choose a suitable domain name for your business, we have created the article “How to choose the right domain name for your business”. Our recommended domain name registrars are also provided in the article and what information you will need to register your selected domain name.
You may choose to purchase your own hosting, however if you choose one of our ongoing website maintenance plans then hosting is included. This is with a premium Australian based hosting company.
For any website, there is always going to be some ongoing costs associated with it, even if you try and do it all yourself. These general costs are:
- Domain name registration
- Hosting
- Premium themes and plugins
To find out more on what each of these entail, check out our article Understanding the cost of owning a website. If you don’t want to worry about the day to day management of your website, you can choose to outsource it. We provide affordable monthly plans that will cover all these costs, plus more. Check out our website maintenance plans to find one that suits your needs.
The time it takes to create a website depends on various factors, such as the size and complexity, and most importantly the availability and quality of your content that is ready to go. Our basic websites usually take about 4 weeks, but this timeframe relies on the timely provision of information and content by you. As content creation is usually the hardest part for a business owner, we also provide templates and tools to help make this process as easy as possible and keep the project on schedule.
Yes! You own the website which is a combination of files and a database. We aim to provide various solutions to our customers to ensure you do not feel locked into a contract. If you decide you want to use a different hosting provider in the future and manage your own website, we will happily do a website transfer to your new hosting account at no charge.
Please note that we do use premium themes and plugins to create your website. If you do not select an ongoing maintenance plan, you will still have access to the current version of the theme and plugins installed, but they will not be updated when new versions are released. We do provide an alternative option to maintain access to our licences for a smaller annual fee, however you will be responsible for checking and installing updates to all elements of your website and any possible issues that may occur after updates. You are also able to buy the licences yourself and we will provide the details of the relevant theme and plugin developers so you can do this if you want to.
As part of our normal services, we do not write your content, however we will provide you templates and tools to help you draw out the content required for your site and can conduct a content creation workshop with you if needed. We will also review the content that is provided to ensure it reads well, contains relevant keywords and is search engine optimised. If you need further help with your content creation, we can also put you in contact with a copywriter who specialises in writing for the web.
We specialise in designing and building websites, and therefore like to focus on what we’re good at. If you need help in creating a business logo and assistance with branding, we are are able to advise you on the available options, ranging from DIY tools to local graphic designers.
We build websites using a premium theme that includes responsive design. This means it will adjust its layout depending on the size of the screen it is being displayed on. We will also test the look of your website on different browsers, various screen sizes, as well as on iOS and android devices to ensure that no matter what device your visitors are using to view your website, it will always look great and be functional.
A Content Management System, often referred to as a CMS, is a tool that allows you to maintain the pages of your website yourself, without the need for any advance technical skills. A CMS allows you to edit and add pages, images, products or blog entries to your website. No additional software is required – all you need is a web browser and an internet connection.
As part of our ongoing website maintenance plans we provide options for minor updates and additions to be made to your website by us. This is via a ticket support system in our client only area. If there is a requirement for major changes to be made to your website later on, we will provide a more detailed consultation and provide a quote for the suggested changes.
If you like to get a bit more hands on and would like to do minor content updates yourself, we do provide a 1hr training session upon delivery of your website to ensure you are familiar with the backend editor of your website, as well as extra training videos in our client only area that you can refer to. We do limit some backend access to ensure that some of the main design elements of the website aren’t accidentally changed, enabling owners to feel more confident to update the content on their website themselves.
